Tesla's Last FSD Purchase Loophole: Model S, Model X, and Cyberbeast Still Include It | Taha Abbasi

While Tesla has officially ended the ability to purchase Full Self-Driving as a one-time payment, Taha Abbasi reports that a single loophole remains. The Luxe Package — available exclusively on the Model S, Model X, and Cyberbeast — still bundles FSD for the life of the vehicle, offering a path around the subscription-only future.
The Luxe Package: Tesla’s Premium Bundle
Months ago, Tesla launched the Luxe Package as a premium incentive for its flagship vehicles. As Taha Abbasi noted at the time, this wasn’t just a marketing play — it was Tesla’s way of adding value to its most expensive vehicles while the company transitioned FSD to subscriptions. The package includes Full Self-Driving, free Supercharging at over 75,000 locations worldwide, free Premium Connectivity, and a four-year premium service package covering wheel and tire protection, windshield protection, and recommended maintenance.
Tesla simultaneously raised prices on the Model S and Model X by $10,000 to account for the added value. The Cyberbeast, the top-tier Cybertruck trim, also includes the Luxe Package as standard.
The Fine Print Has Changed
Here’s where it gets interesting — and potentially problematic for used car buyers. Tesla recently updated the Luxe Package terms to specify that FSD is not transferable to subsequent vehicle owners. This means if you buy a used Model S with the Luxe Package, the FSD component stays with the original owner’s Tesla account, not the vehicle.
As Taha Abbasi has consistently warned, Tesla’s ability to remotely control software features creates a unique dynamic in the used car market. A $100,000+ vehicle can lose tens of thousands of dollars in software value the moment it’s resold — something traditional automakers have never done.
What This Means for Buyers Right Now
If you want FSD without a monthly subscription, your options in February 2026 are extremely limited:
- Buy a new Model S with Luxe Package — Starting around $89,990
- Buy a new Model X with Luxe Package — Starting around $99,990
- Buy a Cyberbeast — The top-tier Cybertruck at roughly $119,990
That’s it. For everyone else — Model 3, Model Y, standard Cybertruck trims — it’s $99/month or nothing.
The Strategic Play Behind Subscription-Only FSD
Tesla’s move to subscription-only makes strategic sense when you consider the bigger picture. A one-time $8,000 purchase meant Tesla captured revenue once. A $99/month subscription generates $1,188/year — meaning Tesla breaks even in under seven years and then profits indefinitely. For a company building toward a robotaxi network, recurring revenue from millions of FSD subscribers is far more valuable than one-time payments.
Taha Abbasi believes this transition is ultimately good for consumers too, even if it stings right now. Subscriptions lower the barrier to entry and let owners try FSD without a massive upfront commitment. The key question is whether Tesla will adjust the pricing to boost that 12% take rate — because at $99/month, most owners simply aren’t biting.
